Deployable Rapid Assembly Shelters (DRASH)
DRASH is a family of quick erect/strike tactical soft walled shelters . DRASH combines state of the art technology with the most advanced materials available. The result is a shelter system that is man portable, rugged, reliable and user friendly.
DRASH has three basic components:
- An expandable frame with both interior and exterior covers pre-attached.
- A ground cover which sets the site plan
- A floor that seals the interior of the shelter.
DRASH can be deployed by four people within minutes. No field assembly is required and no special tools are needed for either erecting or striking. There are no loose parts or locking devices. No site preparation is needed.
Advanced Design and Materials
The DRASH frame is a free standing, self-supporting structure with a clear span interior. There are no obstructions such as centre poles. This frame design allows for quick erect and strike.
The DRASH frame is manufactured from an aerospace material, Titanite®. The flex strength of Titanite is 250% greater than the flex strength of aluminium. It has 100% memory up to its ultimate break strength.
The shelter covers are made from specially coated polyester and nylon fabrics. To repel insects, the interior cover is treated with a permetherin based repellent. The covers are easily removable in the event of any damage or mission change.
The ambient environment of DRASH is the result of the interior and exterior covers forming natural insulation. DRASH has an R-Value of 2.1. With the assistance of an ECU, the DRASH can be subjected to temperatures as low as -50°F and as high as 120° F and still hold a constant interior temperature. A climate controlled environment allows personnel to operate high tech electronics, computers and electronic systems. Climate controlled DRASH also provides an ideal aseptic environment for a medical or hospital complex. DRASH shelters are compatible with single use bladder inserts for full range chem/bio protection.
